Badara Ndiaye (b. 1984, Kaolack, Senegal) is a multidisciplinary artist whose trajectory bridges sport, fashion, and contemporary art. After a career in Division I basketball in the U.S., cut short by injury, he turned to fashion as a model and creative director, collaborating with brands such as Givenchy, Tom Ford, and Puma. His distinctive style has been featured in international outlets including Vogue, GQ, Elle, and Harper’s Bazaar, and he has contributed to academic programs at Parsons School of Design and Istituto Marangoni in Paris and New York.
As a polyglot and cultural ambassador of Senegal, Ndiaye draws on his diverse experiences to explore themes of resilience, identity, transformation, and cultural dialogue through painting, sculpture, film, and upcycling practices. Inspired by the red and ochre earth of Africa, his works celebrate color as an essential life force, transforming everyday objects and materials into new forms. His art, deeply rooted in sociology, anthropology, and lived experience, questions inequality and celebrates difference while narrating his own story of perseverance and reinvention.
His recent exhibition, XIPPI, at the August Wilson Museum in Pittsburgh, reflects his philosophy of art as a medium of transformation and connection across cultures.
