Colección: Julio Pastor

Julio Pastor is a Mexican visual artist who explores the urban landscape and architectural decay as records of collective memory and social identity. Born in 1981 in Mexico City, he became interested when he began drawing the unfinished structure of the Hotel de México (now the WTC) as seen from the Espacio Escultórico at UNAM. This experience sparked his fascination with incomplete urban symbols.

A graduate of UNAM with a Master of Fine Arts from the Dutch Art Institute, he uses abandoned buildings and ruins as metaphors in his work. The pastor conceives of layers of graffiti and material wear as geological strata that defy time and document social history through architecture.

His pieces transform these structures, whether they collapse in earthquakes or erode slowly, into essential witnesses to the landscape. The artist argues that ruins are a visible consequence of “unresolved issues within society,” turning art into a medium for reflecting on the city’s failures and identity.
